The purpose of the sliding strip is to guide the glass element in the groove of the strip. The glass slides easily under the guidance of the fluffy "plush surface", and does not scratch the edge of the glass unnecessarily. The soft sliding surface also absorbs the vibration of the glass and thus prevents the noise caused by the glass.
