The first number of the IP rating indicates dust-tightness. A rating of 6 signifies complete dust-tightness. The second number refers to water resistance as follows: 5 protected against water spray from all directions 6 protected against strong water spray 7 protected against temporary immersion 8 protected against continuous immersion (immersion depth defined separately) 9 protected against high-pressure and/or hot water spray For humid or dusty environments, or when weighing wet items, it is advisable to choose scales rated IP65 – IP69K as needed. This ensures that the scales' sealing properties meet the requirements of the application and that the weighing device remains operational without interruptions throughout its lifespan. The IP rating can also be present in a plastic-shell scale (see e.g., KERN IOC or Precia Molen i5 WP1-S, where the display units are plastic-shelled but rated IP65 and IP66). |
